Paediatric gastroesophageal reflux: the NASPGHAN and ESPGHAN guidelines

The documents contains 24 formal recommendations deriving from a joint assessment of all the literature that can be evaluated as well as from the experience of the members of the panel and unequivocally clarifies what is useful to do, namely what is demonstrably useful to do, in numerous conditions that are surely or only theoretically connected to gastroesophageal reflux such as recurrent vomiting in the first year of life, retro-sternal pain or burning, and chronic respiratory disease. On the basis of the present knowledge, it is a reliable guide for a good clinical practice for such diseases. This document is intended to be used in daily practice for the development of future clinical practice guidelines and as a basis for clinical trials.
